Our story
How the adventure begins
In 1985 several families from Manacor decided to close their respective businesses to invest in a new store model with a clear objective: the product of Mallorca. Only one year later, we opened the first Hiper Centro in our hometown.
Proximity sales
From the beginning, our philosophy has been based on proximity sale. We have always prioritized KM0 and local products, in order to support the island’s producers. All in all, er generate wealth to reinvest it here.
Growth and expansion
The second supermarket of our chain was opened in Cala Millor, where we had 45 employees. In the following years we were in full expansion and opened new Hiper Centros in Felanitx (1989), Inca (1990), s’Illot (1992) and Xim’s (1993). By then, we reached a hundred employees.
Ibiza
In view of the sales we were having in our native Mallorca, we opened our first supermarket in Ibiza.
Two new Hiper Centros
Hiper Centro in Porreres and in Puerto de Pollença started their activity.
Menorca
While continuing our expansion in Ibiza, with two new supermarkets, we decided to launch our brand in Menorca.
Es Brico
In 2004 we decided to open a new concept of store dedicated to DIY, Es Brico, which we inaugurated for the first time in the place where our history began, in Manacor.
We keep growing
In the following years we opened two new Hiper centro stores in Ibiza and also in Montuïri and Portocristo. In addition, we also opened other stores in Inca and Mahón, reaching a total of 530 employees.
Llucmajor and Santa Eulàlia
With the opening of a store in Llucmajor and another two in Santa Eulàlia (Ibiza), our team grew up to 620 people.
IFA/Eliges
From this moment we started to work with the IFA/Eliges brand.
Hiper Centro online
Digitalization has also affected us, supermarkets, so we decided it was time to launch a new project, based on online shopping. Tu Hiper Ibiza delivers to your home and focuses on satisfying customer needs without leaving home.
Balearic Product
As we have already said, the philosophy of Hiper Centro has been based on the local product from the beginning. Here go some facts: more than 55% of the total lamb, suckling pig and pork meat marketed in 2019 was of Balearic origin; 38% of the egg references we have were also. In addition, the amount of fruits and vegetables came from the archipelago in 73% of the cases.
“D’aquí”
We keep focusing on our objective, which is promoting Balearic products, we started a new project, called “D’aquí” (from here). We are willing to strenght the primary sector from the islands and defend sustainability in our environment.
Today
At the moment, we have 25 active stores (13 in Mallorca, 10 in Ibiza and 2 in Menorca) and 1018 employees (766 women and 340 men).
Values
Since 1986, when we opened the first Hiper Centro, we’ve had a very clear vision of our values.
- Trust: our slogan says it all: “D’aquí, de confiança”. And that is the key, the relationship of trust with the customer, the guarantee that we offer a good service and the best products.
- Quality: is the basis of all the products we offer, according to one of our founders “when someone wants quality products, they come to Hiper Centro”.
- Support to the local producer: we trust in products from our islands and create a value chain within our territory, in which we generate wealth and work in different sectors. In our supermarkets, fresh products, harvested the same day, fish from the fish market bought every morning and meat produced in the Balearic Islands, with local pasture, prevail in our supermarkets.
- Wide variety of top brands: we have many products of a solid own brand like IFA, but we know that the customer has the right to choose, so we offer a wide range of top brands.
Mission
Once again, our goal is to support the Balearic products and the sustainability of our islands. That is why we have recently embarked on the ‘D’aquí’ project, together with cook Miquel Calent.
The base of this collaboration is: the promotion and enhancement of Balearic products through the link with producers, the activation of the island’s circular economy, the defense of sustainability and the environment and the reinforcement of social and solidarity actions to support the most disadvantaged in difficult times.
